Coconut Moon

“And like the moon, we must go through phases of emptiness to feel
full again.”

Mistery. We as human beings have always been attracted, seduced by mistery. The expetation about the unknow, and what it can bring us, is what has driven most of us until now. Mistery, that’s the perfect adjetive to the Moon.
Quiet, still, sublime.
There is no doubt that the mysterous moon influences our lives through many ways, involuntarily.

In this case our moon it’s not this solid, rocky surface cratered and pitted from impacts by asteroids, but it’s a feeling.

The feeling of completeness, emptiness, gratitude, sobriety that you have when you contemplate the moon.

This feeling of supreme tranquility, that embraces, protects and nourishes you, is what this project at the pure Island of Boipeba, BA, Brazil, it’s all about. As many Brazil’s wild places, Boipeba rich flora and fauna has become not only the inspiration but part of the buildings, through the tree of life, the coconut tree. The shape of coconut becomes the shapes of our bangalows, that structuraly translates the structure of the fruit itself: a hard shell into a roof, the seed into the connection to the outside, the “apple” into the inner space.

The masterplan in based on a wooden path, that guides the guest into shadows of the trees, bringing in the mistery until arriving in the welcome building, towards the middle of the area.

The inspiration becomes design, the design provokes feelings, and feelings is what makes us what we are.
