AD Museum

The project is envisioned as an inclusive and democratic space, where contemporary architecture seamlessly integrates with Helsinki’s urban and maritime landscape. The design emphasizes. accessibility, inviting the public to engage with the building as an extension of the surrounding environment. The ground floor, galleries, and terrace are designed to be appropriated by the public, fostering a sense of ownership and connection to the context.

At the heart of the museum’s concept is flexibility and adaptability. The dynamic ground floor encourages visitors to shape their own experiences by interacting with movable panels, allowing them to create personalized spaces. The terraces, arranged around the central ramp, offer stages for various activities, further enhancing the museum's role as a place for public interaction.

A prominent feature of the design is the central stairway, Visible Exhibitions, which allows visitors to engage with the art without needing to enter the building or purchase a ticket leading them to the public rooftop. This design choice underscores the museum's commitment to making art and knowledge accessible to all.

The museum accommodates the diverse needs of its visitors by providing spaces where they can explore activities at their own pace. Semi-public exhibitions coexist with areas for workshops, events and gatherings and a Library, creating opportunities for communal art experiences and shared cultural expression.

The private area for exhibitions allows 360 views of the surroundings by providing with a unlike perspective through the Interior Terraces and windows.

Local services at the at everyone’s reach allows the economic sustainability of the complex, allowing everyone to get access to Store and Restaurant without having to go through the museum.

Sustainability is a cornerstone of the proposal, encompassing ecological, social, and economic dimensions. The design incorporates local materials, passive energy strategies, and a flexible construction system, ensuring the museum’s adaptability for future needs. The AD Museum is conceived not merely as a building, but as a living space that interacts with its community, offering a platform for creativity, learning, and ongoing dialogue.
